HORARIO DE EVENTOS

During the four days of La Calaca participants will have the opportunity to experience traditional celebrations of Dia de los Muertos. These featured events will include guided tours of altars around the city, visits to lavishly decorated cemeteries and costumed processions. Below is the schedule of events from Thursday Nov 1 through Sunday Nov 4 (subject to change). For additional, self-organized events, goto Ruta Mictlan:

THURSDAY, NOV 1

12 – 7:00pm – Arte @ Parque : Talleres para niños, instalaciones y música / Kids workshops, art installations and music

4 – 5:00pm –  Conferencía de Ofrendas /Altar Talk at Casa de la Cuesta (by Heidi Levasseur)

4:30pm – Plática de Día de Muertos / Day of the Dead Lecture & slideshow by Arturo Morales (El Sindicato, Recreo #4 · Centro). Duration 40 mins. in English

6:30pm - Inauguratión Oficial (Jardin Principal)

7:00pm – Desfile de Catrinitas / Little Catrinas Parade (Jardin Principal)

7:00pm – Cocktail & Art Opening @ The Restaurant

8:00pm – Desfile de Catrinas / Catrina Parade ($200p to participate. meet at Rosewood Hotel at 6pm for makeup/prep/photos. Procession to Jardin via Aldama)

8:30pm - Arpa de la Tierra / Earth Harp  (Jardin Principal)

9:15pm – Coctel y Inauguracíon del Altar de Muertos en honor a Leonard Brooks, Presidencia, Jardin Principal 8 (Patio del Consejo Turístico – el ex-carcel).

9pm – 2am – Fiesta de Inauguración / Kick-off Party @ Hotel Matilda (no cover charge, cash bar). DJ Papacheco

9:30pm – Concurso de Catrinas / Catrina Contest  (Jardin Principal)

 

FRIDAY, NOV 2

9:30am and 11:30am – Panteón / Cemetary Tour por Arturo Morales (meet promptly at Real de Minas)

10:30-11:00am – Arpa de la Tierra / Earth Harp daytime performance

12 – 10pm: Arte @ Parque. Talleres para niños, instalaciones y música /  Kids workshops, art installations, and music.

12 – 3pm Amigos del Parque Inaguration of the children’s area, free face painting for kids, balloons and popcorn. Celebration for the community

12 – 6:00pm – Panteón Abierto / Open Cemetery Walk at Panteon San Juan de Diós (oldest cemetery in San Miguel) traditionally decorated & with special art installation: @ Callejon de los Muertos & San Antonio Abad. Free to the Public

5 – 7:00pm - “La Vida es Corta Muestra de cortos / Life is Short”, Short Film Program – hosted by GIFF, Teatro Angela Peralta (Hernandes Macias y Mesones)

6:00pm - DESFILE LA CALACA CATRINA PARADE (with mojigangas). Route: Lavaderos – Jardin Principal. All participants must meet at the Casa de la Cultura by 5:45pm  Open to the costumed public. Look for the Mojigangas.

9pm-1am – Altar de muertos interactivo creado por el artista Eduardo Sarabia y Casa Dragones con la música de DJ Tropicaza en Las Caballerizas de los Dragones en Recreo #16.

SUNDAY, NOV 4

2 – 8pm – La Calaca Fiesta: *CLOSING CELEBRATION EN EL CAMPO*:  BBQ PICNIC @ Los SenderosLa gran ceremonia de clausura dará por terminado el evento. Participarán artistas y músicos en vivo a las afueras del pueblo, en “Los Senderos”. Ahí se realizará una parrillada y estará “Spirits” por Spencer Tunick. **NOTA: La parrillada es un evento familiar; vestimenta requerida. Es necesario registrarse para participar el la sesión fotografica de Spencer Tucnick (cupo limitado)**

Live musicians and performers, PLUS Spencer Tunick‘s “SPIRITS” installations (be there by 4pm to participate in this event). **NOTE: Picnic Fiesta is family friendly – clothing required. Access to Spencer Tunick Photo Shoot limited to registered models only.***

 

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS OUTSIDE OF TOWN: Excursions to Sanctuary of Atotonilco & Anado McLauchlin Studios in La Cieneguita (9am – 5pm, call 415 155 8044 for more information or email anado@madebyanado.com). (Directions to Anado’s: Cross the tracks at the bottom of Canal St & follow road towards Guanajuato for 5km to La Cieneguita. 100 meters past signs for Guanajuato and Atotonilco is a small sign for “Casa de Las Ranas”. Take a right, into La Cieneguita, then another right at the Church towards “Balneario Las Grutas”. Casa Las Ranas is up hill 300m on left.)
